On June 25, Facebook’s Find Friends Nearby drew a lot of attention from netizens. This feature lets the social network’s users see Friends and other Facebook users who’re in the same area.
CNN got hold of the news after the information of the feature was leaked to the tech press.
The app engineer, Ryan Patterson says “Facebook search might be effective, or sharing your vanity addresses or business cards, but this tool provides a really easy way to exchange contact information with multiple people with minimal friction.”
He also said that it was still being tested. But the question is “Why was it available for use last Monday?”
An email reply to CNN from a Facebook spokesperson said “With all tests, some get released as full products, others don’t. Nothing more to say on this for now — we’ll communicate to everyone when there is something to say.”
Facebook immediately and quietly pulled the app after getting negative feedback from the users.
